Lamar Defeats Creighton

BEAUMONT, Texas – Carrying the momentum over from Thursday's victory at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Lamar University defeated Creighton, 5-2, Friday afternoon at the Thompson Family Tennis Center. The victory marked LU's (9-11) second victory in less than 24 hours.

The Cardinals started the match strong taking victories at No. 1 and 2 doubles for the first point of the day. Lamar didn't step off the accelerator in the transition to singles. The Cardinals took consecutive wins at Nos. 1 – 3 singles to knock Creighton out before they could get on the scoreboard.

Junior Martin Garcia-Ripoll got the singles scoring started with his victory at No. 1 singles. Classmate Max Amling followed suit with a winner on court 2 and then freshman Leon Nickel closed out the overall win for Lamar with his victory at No. 3.

All three matches were won in straight sets. The Bluejays managed to get two wins on the scoreboard but it was too little too late as Big Red closed out the day with the last victory at No. 4 singles from senior Brandon Do.

The Cardinals return to action Sunday when they close out the regular season against New Orleans (11 a.m.). LU still has a shot at the No. 2 overall seed.
