Men’s Tennis Defeats UNO on Senior Day

BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University recorded an impressive 5-2 victory over New Orleans Sunday afternoon at the Thompson Family Tennis Center to send senior Brandon Do out in style. The Cardinals won the doubles point and never looked back picking up their third consecutive victory and their fourth in the last five matches.

The suddenly hot Cardinals enter the Southland Conference Championships with a 10-11 (.476) overall record and a 2-2 (.500) mark in conference play.

Big Red got victories from Nos. 2 and 3 doubles to take the point which was a rally as the Privateers got the first victory of the day at No. 1 doubles.

The Cardinals wasted little time in singles play building on their lead and eventually putting the match away. LU got wins from Max Amling (No. 2) and Haruki Omori-Cowie (No. 6) to take a 3-0 lead. Then the senior stepped in to put the match away on Senior Day. Do bested UNO's Sergi Tintore, 6-2, 6-2.

The Privateers got on the scoreboard late with two singles wins but the overall match had already been decided at that time as Lamar's Leon Nickel closed out the scoring with a three-set victory on court three.

The Cardinals return to action in the Southland Conference Championships which will have the opening-round matches beginning Thursday, April 18th. Lamar is awaiting the conference announcement to find out their opening-round opponent.
