BEAUMONT, Texas – Southeastern Louisiana spoiled Lamar University Senior Day defeating the Cardinals, 7-0, Tuesday at the Thompson Family Tennis Center. Although the Lions got the victory on eight courts, the match on each individual court was very close. Three matches went to a third set and three sets were pushed to a tiebreak, including both sets at No. 5 singles.
On the three courts that went to a third set the Lions took the first set on two of the three. Both
Marika Mueller (No. 2 singles) and
Megan Do (No. 3 singles) battled back in the second set to force a third but both came up just short in the extra frame.
Senior
Elena Rubio won her opening set, 7-6 (7-4), but Southeastern's Bente Bierma rallied in the next two sets for the victory.
The Cardinals will look to right the ship Saturday when they travel to San Antonio, Texas, to take on UIW. The match against the league's other Cardinals will begin at 1 p.m.
