FRISCO, Texas – Senior point guard
Chris Pryor and junior forward
Terry Anderson have been named 2024 Second Team All-Southland Conference announced league officials Saturday morning. It if the first such honor for either student-athlete.
Pryor transferred to Lamar prior to the start of the 2022-23 season and made an immediate impact. He won the starting role at point guard and never looked back playing in all 62 games. A defensive-minded guard with a pass-first, shoot-second mentality, Pryor turned himself into one of the Southland's top scoring threats as a senior. The DeSoto, native finished the season second on the squad averaging 11.8 points per game (18
th in the league) and was sixth in the league in assists (3.6 apg). He also owned one of the Southland's best assist-to-turnover ratios (2.6) which was the Southland second-best mark this past season.
Pryor also made things happen on the defensive end of the floor. He tied for ninth in the conference averaging 1.4 steals per game.
It was a redemption year for Anderson who was plagued by injuries a season ago. Anderson, who was named SLC Player of the Week in the final week of the regular season, finished the year ranked among the league leaders in double-doubles. He led the team in that category with seven outpacing teammate
Adam Hamilton by one.
Anderson closed out his junior season leading the team in scoring (12.7 ppg) and ranked second on the squad in rebounds (6.5 rpg). Both marks ranked among the league's top 15.
The Cardinals all-conference duo was a huge part of the program's resurgence in 2023-24 as Big Red posted 18 wins, 12 conference win and received a first-round bye in the tournament with their fourth-place finish. Lamar will open tournament play Monday at 5 p.m. They will take on the winner of the No. 8 New Orleans vs. No. 5 Southeastern Louisiana game. It will be broadcast live on Newstalk 560 KLVI and streamed live on ESPN+.
