BEAUMONT, Texas – Following a nine-win improvement from last year, the Lamar University Cardinals (18-13/12-6 SLC) landed the No. 4 seed in the 2024 Jersey Mike's Southland Basketball Championships Presented by Explore Louisiana.

As a reward for earning the No. 4 overall seed the Cardinals have received a first-round bye and will play Monday at 5 p.m. (on ESPN+). The Cardinals await the winner of the No. 5 Southeastern Louisiana vs. No. 8 New Orleans contest Sunday. Should the Cardinals win their opening-round game they await league regular-season champion, and rival, McNeese.

The Cardinals are making their first appearance in the postseason since the 2021 tournament, where they won their first two games before falling in the semifinals. Big Red enters the postseason riding a three-game win streak in a year where they were picked to finish ninth (of 10 teams) in the league's preseason poll.

For the Cardinals, they enter the tournament with their highest seed since 2012 when they were a three seed. That year, Lamar defeated McNeese in the championship game to earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.

LU season-ticket holders will receive complimentary tickets to the tournament through the LU ticket office. Lamar single-game buyers can purchase a discounted rate to the tournament through ticket office by clicking
