BEAUMONT, Texas – Freshman
Natalia Turczuk recorded a straight-sets victory against Eleni Fasoula at No. 4 singles but Lamar University struggled to pick up wins on the remaining courts falling to Fordham, 6-1, Tuesday afternoon at the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
Turczuk's victory pulled Lamar within a point, 2-1, with four more singles matches remaining. Turczuk defeated Eleni Fasoula, 6-2, 6-1, for the point.
In addition to Turczuk's victory, Lamar took the opening set on court No. 1 with
Marika Mueller, and
Martina Alcaino forced a tiebreak in the second set at No. 6, but unfortunately Alcaino was unable to force a third set and Mueller fell in a tiebreak in the third set of her match.
The Cardinals return to action Saturday when they host McNeese. The match against the Cowgirls is slated for a 1 p.m. start from the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
