UTRGV Outlasts Lamar

EDINBURG, Texas – UT Rio Grande Valley rallied back from deficits on Nos. 1 and 2 doubles to win the point and eventually the match defeating Lamar University, 4-2, Sunday in Edinburg. The loss drops Lamar to 7-7 on the season.

The Vaqueros' victories on courts 1 and 2 were a hard pill to swallow as Lamar's team of senior Jayci Wong and Marika Mueller recorded a shutout victory, 6-0, on court No. 1.

UTRGV managed to push its lead to 3-0 before the Cardinals battled back with wins on courts 5 and 6 singles. Freshman Natalia Turczuk got the Cardinals on the scoreboard first with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Kristal Dule at the fifth position, followed by Nouray Metwally's win on court 6. Metwally defeated UTRGV's Valentina Urraco by the exact same score.

Unfortunately, that would be the final score for the Red and White as the Vaqueros held on to their leads on the remaining courts.

The Cardinals returns to action, and Southland Conference play, when they host Northwestern State Saturday, Mar. 23. The match against the Demons is set for an 11 a.m. start from the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
