Pacific Next on the Docket for Lamar

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas – Winners of six straight, the Lamar University baseball team continues its eight-game homestand Friday when they open a three-game series against the University of the Pacific.

The Cardinals' (12-4) recent success has been due in large part to the Southland's pitching staff. Big Red enters the week as the league leaders in earned run average (3.73) while holding opponents to a .221 batting average to go along with and 149 strike outs.

After taking two of three from UT Arlington, Lamar then went on the road to defeat Stephen F. Austin before returning home to sweep UMBC and continued that success Tuesday against Southern.

The Cardinals previous four wins have all followed the same pattern – jump out to early leads and let the pitching staff bring it home. Lamar has scored in the first inning in each of its last four games recording a combined 6-0 margin during that time.

The Cardinal bats have things up a notch over the course of the past six games as well. Lamar has scored 19 runs in the past two games, and is averaging nearly seven runs per game in the past six contests.

It has been a tough start to the season for the Tigers who are 3-13 (.188) on the season, but they just put an end to a 10-game slide Tuesday with a 6-5 victory over Utah Valley. During the 10-game stretch, the Tigers played in numerous one-run games and dropped an extra-inning game at Fresno State.

The series will kick off Friday with a 6:05 p.m. first pitch from Vincent-Beck Stadium. Saturday is set for a 5:05 p.m. first pitch and the series will close with a 12:05 p.m. contest Sunday. The games will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
