BEAUMONT, Texas – Having won five straight games, Lamar University softball looks to extend their run of good play on Wednesday when they face off against Southern on their home diamond at 4 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
LU was victorious in both doubleheaders this past weekend winning two games at McNeese on Friday along with their first two home games of the season on Sunday. Friday started off with a 6-1 win against Niagara before a nine-inning thriller with North Dakota which was decided by
Trinity Brandon's two-run homer in the top of the ninth to give the Cardinals a 2-0 victory.
Brandon came up big again on Sunday to lead the Cardinals to a come-from-behind 3-2 win against Niagara in Game 1 of their home-opening doubleheader. The rest of the Cardinal bats then woke up for Game 2 as Big Red strutted out to an 11-0 win in five innings including four RBI from
Raigan Brannon.
KEY STORYLINES
Big Red's five-game win streak is the team's longest since 2020. This is also their best season start since then as well. Stranded baserunners were an issue for the team early in the season, but the bats have come alive recently including a 12-hit outburst in their most recent affair.
PLAYERS TO WATCH

Emma Wardlaw also had a big week pitching a nine-inning complete game shoutout against North Dakota while also going six innings in her first career home start on Sunday.

Along with her game-winning home run on Friday, she smashed a two-run triple in the sixth inning of Game 1 against Niagara on Sunday to secure a 3-2 win. She batted .529 on the week with a home run, triple, double and five RBI.
