SB Central: Cardinals Head to Texas Southern for Midweek Doubleheader

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas – After competing in the Cowgirl Challenge which featured three conference champions from last season, Lamar University's softball team will get ready for a quick turnaround as they face off against Texas Southern on the road in a doubleheader on Tuesday. The game times are set for 2 and 4 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
LU split their two matchups with Central Arkansas before falling to Oklahoma and McNeese. The Cardinals managed to set a season-high in runs (11) and hits (14) in their win against UCA with eight of the nine starters notching hits. The team was also the victim of some tough losses including a one-run defeat against UCA and one to McNeese where the go-ahead run was at the plate to end the game.

KEY STORYLINES
The Cardinals are off to their best start since 2020 but now enter a stretch with three doubleheaders in six days as they continue in nonconference play. New faces continue to be the theme for the Cardinals so far this season as playmakers have begun to emerge for this young team.

PLAYERS TO WATCH
Shenita Tucker now leads the team in batting average after hitting 7-for-13 this weekend including her first four RBI as a Cardinal in their win against UCA. Jayne Sepulveda also kept up her strong start to the season with her five RBI this past weekend bringing her team-high season total to nine.

On the mound, a trio of freshmen have been called upon to pitch big innings early on as Emma Wardlaw, Makayla Valle and Madison Guidry each appeared in two games this past weekend with Wardlaw getting the starts on Friday and Sunday. LU will continue to seek clarity in their rotation as they get further into the season and figure out which arms they can count on.
