BEAUMONT, Texas - The Lamar University softball team released its 2025 schedule as announced by head coach
Amy Hooks Friday afternoon. The Cardinals will play 54 games this season, including 27 at the LU Softball Complex.
LU will open its season by hosting back-to-back tournaments. The first tournament will be co-hosted with Houston as LU starts with a doubleheader against UL Monroe on Feb. 7th. The next day has two more games as LU faces St. John's (3 p.m.) and defending national runner-up Texas (6 p.m.).
The following weekend's I-10 Border Classic has Big Red hosting a non-conference meeting with Nicholls (Feb. 13th), before the Cardinals welcome another nationally ranked squad to the Golden Triangle (Tennessee - Feb. 15th). LU will also be competing against Missouri State (Feb. 14th; Feb. 16th) and Tulsa (Feb. 15th).
LU's two other tournaments will occur in Chattanooga, Tenn. (Feb. 21-Feb. 23) and Hattiesburg, Miss. (Feb. 28th-Mar. 2nd). In Chattanooga, the Cardinals will take on host team UT Chattanooga (Feb. 22nd) while playing Indiana State (Feb. 21st), Southeast Missouri State (Feb. 21st), Indiana (Feb. 22nd), and Illinois State (Feb. 23rd). The Cardinals will face Southern Mississippi (Mar. 1) in Hattiesburg, while facing Jacksonville State and Louisiana Tech twice. Â
Â
There will be eight midweek games this season as Big Red will have home and away contests with Houston (Feb. 19th, Apr. 1st) and Sam Houston (Feb. 25th, Apr. 22nd). The Cardinals will also host a doubleheader with Tarleton State (Apr. 15th) and single games against Texas Southern (Mar. 4th) and Baylor (Mar. 12th).
Â
The Cardinals will have 27 Southland Conference games including 12 at home against McNeese (Mar. 7th-8th), East Texas A&M (Mar. 21st-22nd), Southeastern Louisiana (Apr. 8th-9th) and Houston Christian (Apr. 17th-18th). On the road, LU will take on Stephen F. Austin (Mar. 14th-15th), Nicholls (Mar. 28th-29th), Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Apr. 4th-5th), Northwestern State (Apr. 11-12th), and UIW (Apr. 26th-27th). Â Â

"I am very excited about the quality of opponents we have scheduled for 2025," said Coach Hooks. "We will play almost half of our games in Beaumont, which gives our fans plenty of opportunities to support Team 13. We are also bringing three top 20 opponents to Beaumont. Our team will be tested early, which will prepare us for SLC play. The Southland continues to strengthen in softball, so it is important to have a well-balanced non-conference schedule, and we were able to put that together this year."
Last season, the Cardinals finished with a 26-25 record overall and were fifth in the conference at 12-12.
