CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Lamar University volleyball fell on the road against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Saturday afternoon, 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-18).
Lamar (10-6, 2-2) hit 27-16-100 (.110) on the afternoon.
Lyric Jordan led the team in kills with eight while
Maja Malinowska compiled seven kills and a team-high nine digs.
TAMU-CC finished the match with a hitting percentage of 43 percent (45-5-93). They also chipped in four aces and four blocks.
After both teams traded points early in the first set, the Islanders reeled off a 14-1 run to take the lead. The Cardinals fended off five straight match points, but it was too little too late.
The second set started out similarly to the first with a 5-0 run out of a timeout by the Islanders prompting one in return from Lamar. The Cardinals failed to regain their footing while the Islanders did not record an attacking error in the frame.
The Islanders wasted no time in the third set as an early 12-6 lead allowed them to coast the remainder of the way. Big Red closed the gap late but were unable to prevent a road defeat.
Lamar returns home to McDonald Gym on Tuesday as they host Stephen F. Austin at 6:30 p.m. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.
