SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Lamar University volleyball fell to Incarnate Word on Thursday evening, 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-19).
Lamar (12-11, 4-7 SLC) hit 28-16-111 (.108) on the evening with five aces and three blocks.
Maja Malinowska led the Cardinals in kills with ten while also posting ten digs.
Alexa Gonzalez also chipped ten digs while
Lyric Jordan had seven kills.
UIW (13-7, 6-4 SLC) finished with a hitting percentage of 18.7 percent (46-20-139). They also had three aces and nine blocks on the evening.
Both teams traded points early in the first set before a 13-3 run gave the hosts the advantage. Lamar was let down offensively by six attacking errors which came back to bite them in the frame.
Another back-and-forth start in the second set saw both Cardinals tied at 14. UIW would finish strong, however, as they used an 11-6 closing stretch to double their lead in the match.
Set 3 started similarly to the first two with both teams alternating points through the first eight before a 9-3 run allowed UIW to cruise the rest of the way. Lamar pulled to within one point late, but the hosts scored six of the final seven points to finish things off.
Lamar returns to McDonald Gym on Saturday as they face off against UT Rio Grande Valley at 11 a.m. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.
