BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University volleyball fell to UT Rio Grande Valley on Saturday morning, 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-7).
Lamar (12-12, 4-8 SLC) hit 21-9-87 (.138) on the day with three blocks.
Taisha Rhone and
Lyric Jordan led the Cardinals in kills with six while Jordan also had a team-high six digs.
UTRGV (13-9, 9-3 SLC) finished with a hitting percentage of 45.9 percent (51-6-98). They also had six aces and four blocks.
The Vaqueros led from start to finish in the opening set to take the early lead. UTRGV committed only one attacking error in frame while taking advantage of four from Lamar.
Both teams went back-and-forth to start the second set which saw the teams evened up at two. UTRGV would finish strong, however, as they used a 15-5 closing stretch to double their lead in the match.
The third set was all UTRGV from the jump as the Vaqueros scored the first nine points of the frame. They led by as many as 18 and did not trail to close out the game.
Lamar returns to McDonald Gym for their final two home games of the season next week against Nicholls (Thursday at 6:30 p.m.) and McNeese (Saturday at 1 p.m.). Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+.
