BEAUMONT, Texas – Although entering just the second week of the Southland Conference volleyball schedule, Lamar University (0-13/0-2 SLC) is in the midst of arguably its busiest week of the season as the Cardinals will play three matches over the course of the next five days.
The Cardinals open the stretch Tuesday against Houston Christian. The Huskies (7-7) are 2-0 in league play after posting consecutive shutout victories at Nicholls and against UIW. The all-time series between the two schools has been in favor HCU (formerly Houston Baptist), with the Huskies holding a 12-8 all-time mark, which includes a 5-3 record at home. The Cardinals enter Thursday's match looking to put an end to a seven-match losing streak to the Huskies, a skid which dates back to the 2017 campaign.
Tuesday's match will begin at 6 p.m. from McDonald Gym and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
Two nights later, the Cardinals will make the trip over to Natchitoches, La., to face Northwestern State. The Demons are also 7-7 on the season and perfect in league play with a 3-0 record. The Demons have won seven-straight matches heading into the week that will see them play Texas A&M-Commerce before hosting LU. While Big Red leads the all-time series, Northwestern State has had the upper hand lately. The Demons have won three in a row and 13 of the last 14 in the series. The match against Northwestern State is slated to begin at 6:30 p.m. from Prather Gym and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
The Cardinals will then close the week Saturday when they return home to take on New Orleans. The Privateers have had a rough start to the season similar to Lamar. UNO enters the week 2-11 (.154) overall and 0-2 in conference play. New Orleans has dropped six straight dating back to a Sept. 8
th victory over Southern.
The history between the two programs dates back to the 1980 season and is one that has seen the Cardinals win the majority of the games. LU is 30-20 (.667) all-time against the Privateers, a mark that includes a 5-5 record in Beaumont.
