Cardinal Volleyball Reports

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas – As the calendar flips to the second week of August, another Lamar University fall sport team has reported to Beaumont to begin preseason drills for the upcoming season. The 2023 volleyball team checked in Monday morning for its first official day of preseason camp. The team went through meetings throughout the day with the first official practice slated for Tuesday.

Under the guidance of second-year Cardinal head coach Brandon Crisp, Big Red will look to build upon a 9-20 season last year. The Cardinals started strong last season winning six of their first 10 matches before just missing the conference tournament.

The 2023 season will be a new look for the Cardinals as they return just three players – one letterwinner – from last year's squad. Crisp, and his staff, have completely rebuilt the roster with 11 new additions. The 11 newcomers consist of eight prep standouts and three transfers, including two NCAA Division I transfers.

Big Red will step on the floor for a Red vs. White scrimmage Saturday, Aug. 19th, which will be the first opportunity for fans to see the team before they hit the road for a month-long stretch that will consist of four non-conference tournaments, 12 total matches and carry the team into the start of conference play.

LU will play tournaments in Miami, Fla., San Antonio, Texas, Ruston, La. and Las Vegas, Nev., before opening the home portion of their schedule Saturday, Sept. 23rd against Texas A&M-Commerce. LU will be at home nine times this season before the start of the Southland Conference Championships in Corpus Christi in mid-November.
