BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University Strength and Conditioning Coordinator Dan Darcy received the title of Master Strength and Conditioning Coach (MSCC) at the end of the 2022-23 academic year. Darcy received the title last month at a special presentation during the CSCCa Conference.
The title of Master Strength and Conditioning Coach is the highest honor that can be achieved which represents professionalism, knowledge, experience, expertise and longevity in the field.
To receive the title of MSCC, individuals must be full-time, collegiate and/or professional strength and conditioning coach for a minimum of 12 years just to be eligible. In addition, the candidate must be an active CSCCa member, be a Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) by the CSCCa and have 12 years of valid employment history as a full-time strength and conditioning coach either at the collegiate or professional level.
The most recent class included 27 inductees total, which was the second largest class in the program's 23-year history. During that time, more than 300 coaches nationwide have received the title.
Darcy, who came to Lamar in April 2016, is entering his eighth season of overseeing the strength and conditioning efforts for the entire athletics department. Prior to his arrival at LU, Darcy served as the top assistant at Northern Arizona University aiding in all aspects of the football program. He also work helped train 16 All-Americans during his time in Flagstaff.
During Darcy's time in the Golden Triangle it has become commonplace for Lamar male and female athletes to recognized for their work in the weight room. In the past three seasons alone, Big Red has had 17 student-athletes receive NSCA All-America honors, including nine this past season.
