SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The first two of the Lamar University Track and Field's four NCAA DI Track & Field West Regional qualifiers got to partake in their events at Hornet Stadium on the campus of Sacramento State University. Both
Faith Outing and
Chloe Rodriguez ran in a 400 meter event with the latter competing in the hurdles portion.
With LU's first event being at 7:25 PM pacific time, Outing stepped up was one of 48 qualifiers to partake in the 400m. Competing in the first heat, she ran around the track at 57.21 seconds, which was enough for 47th place. While her season has come to an end, Outing elevated herself to qualify for the regionals. She has been able to trim her 400m time down to a new personal best of 53.51 seconds at the Southland Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which was good for third place and also earning third team all-conference honors.
Like Outing, Rodriguez was also part of a 48 athlete field in the 400H event. She competed in the sixth heat and finished 45th overall posting a time of 1:02.73 seconds. Despite seeing her season end, it was one that Rodriguez will forever cherish having won two meets in the 400H including a conference title and also first team all-conference honors. She and Outing also added a third team all-conference when they both finished third in 4x400m at the SLC Championships.
With two runners done for the season and only two to go, next up for LU is
Jacarrius Demmerritte, who is scheduled to take part in the triple jump, which begins tomorrow at 8:00 pm pacific time (10:00 PM central).
