BEAUMONT, Texas – Winners in three of their last five games, the Lamar University baseball team (21-18) will look to get back into the win column Tuesday when it travels to Houston for a midweek game against the Cougars.
The Cardinals will look to erase the bitter taste left from a weekend series that saw it fall in the final game of the series in extra innings, the team's fifth extra inning game this season.
The contest for the LU also kicks off a four-game road swing that will end with a three-game series at Southeastern Louisiana.
Big Red has found a great deal of success this season in its midweek games, with the most notable victory coming in the first week of the season against then No. 5 Texas A&M. The list of non-conference also includes Kansas State, TCU, New Mexico State, Stephen F. Austin, Penn and series sweeps over UC Riverside and Oakland.
The Cougars are six games over .500 on the season and enter the week having won three of their last four including a series win over Memphis. Schroeder Park has been a very difficult place for opponents to play historically, but the Cougars have had a few struggles at home this season. Houston has posted a 13-9 (.591) in their home facility this season.
The Cougars lead the all-time series, 55-31 (.640), which includes a 34-13 (.723) mark in Houston. LU has had some success in the series lately winning two of the last three meetings, with the lone loss during that stretch being a one-run decision last season that saw the Cougars have to rally early from a three-run deficit.
Tuesday's game is slated to begin at 6:30 p.m. from Schroeder Park. It will be streamed live on ESPN+.
