SB CENTRAL: LU Opens Five-Game Homestand with Houston Christian

BEAUMONT, Texas - After seven games away from the LU Softball Complex, Lamar University's softball team will return home to start a five-game home stand. This weekend, they will meet up with Houston Christian University.

PREVIOUSLY
LU ended their last series with one win in three games against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. After falling 1-0 in game one, the Cardinals overcame a 2-0 deficit to win the second game 3-2 with RBI from Estela Garza, Brooke Davis, and Sam Bean. While she would take the loss in the circle in game three, Cameron Niedenthal homered for LU's only run of the game.

HEY ESTELA!
After being inserted in the lineup as the right fielder, Estela Garza has managed to record eight hits in 16 at-bats for a .500 batting average over the last six games. Her RBI against TAMCC was the first RBI on her collegiate career.

STATS UPDATE
Bean continues to lead LU in batting average (.331), hits (40), and homers (six) while Kaylee Ancelot remains LU's RBI leader with 29 runs driven in. Aaliyah Ruiz is now LU's leader in ERA (4.36) and strikeouts (56) while also having five wins with Karyana Mitchell.

The Cardinals last defeated HCU 9-1 in five innings last year. Including a home run, Ancelot was one of two Cardinals with two hits along with Audry Fleming while Bean drove in two runs on a double. Ruiz allowed four hits and struck out three batters in the five innings she pitched. The win snapped a six-game skid against the Huskies.

HCU is coming off a 4-3 win over Southeastern to avoid being swept. Avery Drake, who went 4-of-4 drove in the game winning RBI on a single. That was her 12th RBI on the season as she is second in batting average (.343) behind AB Garcia (.431), who leads with 56 hits. Haylie Savage lives up to her name with a team-high 38 RBI and seven homers. In the circle, Lyndie Swanson leads the pitching staff with eight wins and 55 strikeouts.

The Cardinals will continue their home stand by hosting a doubleheader with Texas Southern on Tuesday. The first game will start at 2 p.m.
