BEAUMONT, Texas – Riding the wave from an impressive pitching performance from
Hunter Hesseltine Sunday at UIW, the Lamar University Cardinals will look to make it two in a row Tuesday when they travel to Fort Worth, Texas to take on TCU. The midweek contest will mark the final stop on a nine-game road swing for the Red and White.
The Cardinals defeated UIW Sunday to put a stop to a minor four-game slide, and now look to start a win streak when they face the Horned Frogs. TCU enters the week with a 22-14 (.611) overall record in a season that includes three wins over top 25 programs, including back-to-back wins over top 10 teams to start the year. TCU has won four of its last six contests but is coming off a series setback to UNC Wilmington over the weekend.
As a team, TCU is hitting .277 on the season with 51 home runs, 69 doubles and 262 RBIs. The Horned Frogs have also stolen 88-of-98 bases. On the mound, TCU's staff has posted a 5.13 earned run average with a 1.41 WHIP and has struck out 310 batters to just 140 walks.
Lamar (19-16/5-7 SLC) is hitting .247 for the year with 27 home runs, 65 doubles and 167 runs batted in. The Cardinals have also stolen 46-of-59 bases. On the mound, Big Red has recorded a 4.19 ERA (1.32 WHIP) with 297 strike outs against 128 walks.
Big Red trails the all-time series, 13-10 (.565) to TCU which includes a 7-9 (.438) record in Fort Worth. TCU has won six of the last 10 matchups in the series, but the Cardinals are coming off a five-run victory in Fort Worth the last time the two teams faced each other (2019).
Tuesday's game is slated for a 6 p.m. first pitch and will be streamed live on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
