SB CENTRAL: Big Red’s Road Trip Continues Into Corpus Christi

BEAUMONT, Texas - Hanging on to seventh place in the Southland Conference standings, Lamar University's softball team will continue their seven-game road trip into Corpus Christi, Texas this weekend as they will meet up with the Islanders of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. LU is tied with four wins alongside Houston Christian despite playing in more conference games.

PREVIOUSLY
The Cardinals dropped three of their last four games starting with a 2-1 loss to Southeastern. Then, they fell to Nicholls in two of three. The Cardinals did snap a seven-game skid by winning 10-0 to the Colonels, which included a career best four RBI game by Ancelot.

STATS UPDATE
Bean continues to lead LU in batting average (.345), hits (39), and homers (six) while Kaylee Ancelot remains LU's RBI leader with 29 runs driven in. Karyana Mitchell remains LU's ERA leader with 4.66 while Aaliyah Ruiz has five wins and now leads the pitching staff in strikeouts with 53.

300 AND BEYOND
With seven strikeouts against Southern, Ruiz became the first Cardinal pitcher to strikeout over 300 career batters.

LU overcame an early 3-0 deficit to use a five-run sixth to beat the Islanders last year. Audry Fleming was one of five Cardinals to record a hit while she drove in two RBI. Aleka Xayaseng and Hayley Freudenberg also drove in RBI in the game as well. Ruiz would pick up her first save of the season striking out two batters in 2.0 innings of one-hit ball.

While the Islanders are 7-13 all-time against LU, they are 18-15 this year and 6-6 in Southland Conference play. Kimane Rogron has a team-leading .297 batting average and 30 hits for TAMCC while Sydney Hoyt has a team-high 20 RBI. On the base paths, Juliana Garcia and Paolina Baez are each six-of-eight in stolen base attempts for the year. In the circle, Primrose Aholelei had won 13 games and has 134 innings pitched with 115 strikeouts.

The Cardinals return home to meet up with Houston Christian next weekend. As usual, the doubleheader on Friday starts at 3 p.m. while Saturday's finale begins at 5 p.m.
