SB CENTRAL: Cardinals Opening Conference Play in Louisiana

BEAUMONT, Texas - Lamar University's softball team is set to begin their Southland Conference play when they travel to Natchitoches for a three-game series with Northwestern State University this Friday and Saturday. But first, they will have one quick game with Sam Houston State on Wednesday

PREVIOUSLY

LU traveled to Huntsville, Texas to meet up with old foe Sam Houston. While Cameron Niedenthal pitched well striking out seven batters, she gave up three runs in the fourth inning that proved to be the difference as the Cardinals fell 3-1. Felixia Hinojosa finished with a team-high two hits while Hayley Freudenberg drove in a run on a sacrifice fly.

It's been nearly two seasons since the Demons took two-of-three from the Cardinals. LU won the first game of the series 3-1 with Ancelot picking up a key insurance RBI. The Demons are 11-7 overall heading into the series with LU. Laney Roos is the top hitter batting .356 with 21 hits and 14 runs scored. Makenzie Chaffin, second with a .353 batting average and 18 hits, does have two homers to top the Demons while Kat Marshall has driven in 11 RBI. With a team-low 1.70 ERA in the circle and six wins to her name, Maggie Darr has pitched in 45.1 innings while also striking out 55 batters.

After 28 straight games on the road, the Cardinals will finally make their home debut next weekend on the 17th and 18th as they will host Southeastern Louisiana. Friday the 17th will be a doubleheader starting at 3:00 p.m., while Saturday's one game starts at 12:00 p.m.
