BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University made quick work of Dillard University Saturday afternoon posting a 7-0 victory. LU (6-5) won every match in straight sets and posted five sets where they surrendered just one game and three where they shut out their opponent.
After taking all three doubles matches, the Cardinals picked up singles wins from
Megan Do (No. 5) and
Femke Tjon-A-Joe (at No. 1). Tjon-A-Joe made quick work of her opponent not surrendering a game in two sets.
With a 3-0 lead the Cardinals needed just one more victory to take the overall match. That victory came from
Elena Rubio at No. 4 singles. She recorded a straight-sets decision over Dillard's Valentina Gomez, 6-2, 6-0.
Big Red closed out the day taking the final two courts for the shutout.
The Cardinals return to action Wednesday when they host Prairie View A&M in a doubleheader. The first match will begin at 9 a.m. from the Beaumont Municipal Tennis Center.
