Two Cardinals Earn Co-Championships at Louisiana Classic

| By:
LAFAYETTE, La. - In their first meet of the outdoor season, Lamar University's track and field athletes ran in the Louisiana Classic hosted by Louisiana-Lafayette. Throughout the day, LU would have co-champions in one event while tallying nine top-five finishes and six personal bests.

The two co-champions were Trent Guidry and Miles Jones, who together in the high jump crossed 1.95m (6'4.75") while Elijah Jackson finished .05m below (6'2.75") for third place in the same event. In the long jump, Patrick Wolf took fourth place (6.98m-22'10.75") while Jacarrius Demmerritte (5th; 6.95m-22'9.75) set one of two personal bests in the same event. The other occurred when he lept 14.50m (47'7.00") for fourth place in the triple jump. Although Jaylon Roberts and Efosa Evbuomwan finished outside the top 10 in the 100m, they set new personal bests clocking in at 11.18 and 11.20 seconds respectively.

In the men's relay races the 4x100m relay team of Troy Dixon, Steven Jones, Roberts, and Kenson Tate would run fifth at 42.21 seconds. The latter three along with Guidry would then take second (3:20.00) in the 4x400m team edging out their teammates of RJ Lane, Christian Johnson, Dixon, and Allen Tabb (3:35.70).

On the women's side. Sydne Porter recorded two top five finishes with fifth in the 100m (12.22), third in the 4x100m (47.38) along with teammates Brianna Howard, Kayli Johnson, and Jakenzie Thymes, and second in the 4x400m alongside Faith Outing, Adebola Odunlami, and Janell Harvell. Arajanee Jackson took a top five finish in the triple jump as she placed fifth with 11.51m (37'9.25). Like Evbuomwan and Roberts, Odunlami (12.35) and Harvell (12.58) would each set personal bests in the 100m despite finishing outside the top 10.

The Cardinals will make their trip to Houston next weekend to the campus of Rice University for the Victor Lopez Invitational.
