BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University baseball (13-3) kicks off a four-game road swing in Missouri beginning Wednesday at the University of Missouri, before taking on St. Louis in a weekend series.
For the third time this year, the Cardinals (13-3) will take on an opponent from the Southeastern Conference, as the Cardinals look to move a game over .500 in those games. LU defeated No. 5 Texas A&M in College Station, before falling at No. 1 LSU.
The Tigers enter the midweek series with a start similar to Lamar's, posting a 12-3 (.800) overall record. One of Missouri's losses came this past weekend when they dropped the middle game of a three-game series against NJIT. The other two losses have come against Oklahoma State and Florida International.
Wednesday contest will be just the seventh all-time meeting between the two schools. The Tigers hold a 5-1 advantage in the series, but this will be the first time the two have met in Columbia. The Cardinals are going in search of their first victory over Mizzou since the 1990 season.
Wednesday's game will is set for a 3 p.m. first pitch from Taylor Stadium and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
Two days later the Cardinals will travel to St. Louis to open a three-game series against the Billikens. St. Louis is also off to a strong start this season. The Billikens (10-3) have won 10 consecutive games after dropping a season-opening series that saw them fall to Marshall three times. The Billikens win streak includes a three-game sweep of Minnesota and a two-game sweep of Northwestern.
The Billikens will play both Southern Indiana and South Dakota State before the Cardinals come to town. All three games against St. Louis are set for an afternoon start, and will be the Cardinals' final weekend non-conference series before the start of Southland Conference play.
