SB CENTRAL: Cardinals Travel to Stephenville to Meet Former WAC Foe

BEAUMONT, Texas - Back in Texas for this week, the Cardinals will make a quick trip to Stephenville for a one game meeting with former Western Athletic Conference foe Tarleton. The first pitch will be delivered at 6:00 p.m., this Wednesday night.

PREVIOUSLY
The Cardinals faced off against three teams in Florida State's Unconquered Invitational down in Tallahassee, Fla. Though they were unable to pick up a win, they did find themselves in tight battles against #6 Florida State and Troy. Cameron Niedenthal had 3.1 innings of scoreless relief in the first game against the Seminoles while in the second game against FSU, Aleka Xayaseng (two hits,), Hayley Freudenberg (hit), and Kayle Ancelot (hit) each drove in a run.


TEAM STATS UPDATE
Ancelot leads the Cardinals in multiple offensive categories including batting average (.388), hits (19), doubles (five), and RBI (10). Sam Bean is the homer (four) and runs scored (12) leader. Each of the Xayaseng sisters of Aleka and Kalyn are tied for first on the team with two steals apiece. In the circle, Fadwa Ben Karim has the lowest ERA in 4.52 while Karyana Mitchell tops LU in wins, strikeouts (23) and innings pitched (36.1).

The Texans are currently 11-7 following a 2-3 tournament appearance at the UTEP Invitational. Kelci Hill  and Katy Schaefer are each tied for the lead in hits (22) and RBI (15). Schaefer is also batting .423, which is second to teammate Austin Germain (.465), who leads the team with doubles (seven) and runs scored (13). Grace Garcia (5-1, 2.04 ERA, 33 strikeouts) and Kennedy Ferguson (3-1, 2.68 ERA, 18 strikeouts) are a combined 8-2 in the circle while Tristan Bridges has posted a team-best 43 strikeouts.

The Cardinals are 4-3 against the Texans all-time. The Cardinals and Texans met six times last year splitting the contests. LU won two games in Beaumont by scores of 3-2 and 5-3 while they won a wild 11-9 victory last year up in Stephenville. That game saw LU jump out to an 11-3 lead thanks to a five-run first inning before holding on to the win in the seventh. Nicolette Ramirez went 4-for-5 driving in five RBI while coming up one triple shy of the cycle. Aaliyah Ruiz picked up the win with seven strikeouts while allowing four runs.


UP NEXT
LU will hit the road to Arlington to partake in the Boerner Invitational to face off with Rider, UMKC, and UT-Arlington this Friday through Sunday.
