Box Score 2 TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Lamar University's softball team landed in Tallahassee for their big opportunity to take on two top notch opponents in the Unconquered Invitational hosted by Florida State University. LU faced off against the Troy University Trojans at the start of the day and then competed against the sixth-ranked Seminoles for their second game.
The Cardinals fell in Game 1 of the doubleheader to Troy University 8-0 in five innings. LU was held to just two hits in the game from
Sam Bean and
Kaylee Ancelot.
Aaliyah Ruiz went 3.0 innings allowing seven runs on six hits while
Cameron Niedenthal pitched one inning allowing a run on two hits and striking out one batter.
Against FSU, the Cardinals took the Seminoles to seven innings, but again couldn't plate a run falling 4-0. Bean and
Hayley Freudenberg each recorded a hit to open the first inning. But the Seminoles' defense killed off the threat with a double play and tallied three runs in their first along with one in the third. Starter
Fadwa Ben Karim went 2.2 innings with one strikeout and four runs allowed. The Seminole bats would have trouble against Niedenthal, who stared them down for 3.1 scoreless innings while allowing two hits and striking out two batters.
Big Red will go at it again tomorrow with two more games. They'll take on Florida Gulf Coast University tomorrow at 12:15 p.m (11:15 a.m. CT) and then battle FSU again at 2:30 p.m. (1:30 p.m. CT)
