BEAUMONT, Texas - To prepare for their biggest road trip of the season in Tallahassee, Fla., Lamar University's softball team will have a doubleheader this Tuesday against former conference foe Stephen F. Austin. The first game will start at 3:00 p.m. and will be followed by the second game 30 minutes after the end of game one.

LU went 2-4 last week starting with a loss to Texas and then they played five games in the I-35 tournament hosted by both Texas State and UTSA. LU defeated Abilene Christian 6-4 and UTSA 11-7 in the tournament. Sam Bean batted .571 with eight hits, seven RBI, four homers, and 10 runs scored. Kaylee Ancelot drove in seven RBI on eight hits including a homer in the tournament while Hayley Freudenberg drove in five RBI on three hits, including a homer in the Cardinals' win over UTSA.

Last year, while LU was in the Western Athletic Conference they met up with SFA for a three-game series and overcame a 3-1 deficit to earn a 4-3 victory in Nacogdoches. Ancelot drove in two RBI on two hits (single, double) while Nicolette Ramirez homered in the game. Aaliyah Ruiz got the complete game victory striking out five batters.
SFA is currently 5-6 after being shutout by #1 ranked Oklahoma. Mackenzie Bennett leads the Lumberjacks in both batting average (.375) and RBI (10) while Madison Nguyen leads with 13 hits. Alexis Telford has won three games in the circle with a 2.80 ERA and 29 strikeouts while allowing 15 runs on 23 hits.

LU collected four hits, but scored once on an RBI groundout from Sydney Norton.
