HOUSTON, Texas - In their last regular reason indoor meet before the Southland Conference championships, Lamar University's track and field teams were able to put together another strong outing at the Howie Ryan Invitational. Along the way, they picked up one first place finish, a meet record, and more movements up in both school history and conference rankings.

Parl Eelma recorded a solid day for herself as she started with a season best 5.75m (18'10.5"), which makes it fourth in the conference. She also qualified for the finals of the 60m hurdles after her prelim time of 8.71 seconds was fourth all-time in program history. Then, along with Faith Outing, Sydne Porter, and Chloe Rodriguez, Eelma helped the 4x400m relay team finish first overall for LU's only first place finish.

Outing ran third in the 400m placing a time of 56.33 seconds while Kayli Johnson edged out Eelma in the prelims by one-tenth of a second for a sixth place finish, which also qualified her for the finals. But neither Eelma nor Johnson would get to run then.

On the men's side, Eli Peveto made history as he would set a new meet record in the 3000m with his time of 8:34.51. That record would later be topped as Peveto finished in fourth place overall. Miles Jones would come up short of medaling in the high jump, but did claim fourth after jumping 2.04m (6'8.25"). The men's 4x400m relay team of Jaylon Roberts, Kenson Tate, Trent Guidry, and Cameron Chin earned second place with a time of 3:16.96 seconds.

While most of the runners were Houston, three women's runners (Yasmin Austridge, Nia Clatworthy, and Jillian Howard each got to compete in the mile at the Music City Challenge in Nashville, Tenn and all of them set new personal bests. Austridge (15th) completed her time of 4:44.50 seconds, which is second all-time in program history while Clatworthy's (47th) time of 4:55.24 was not only a heat win for her, but ninth in program history. Howard had a 60th place finish, but a new PR at 4:58.81.

The Cardinals will run on February 27th-28th at the Southland Conference Indoor Championship meet in Birmingham, Ala.
