BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University Athletics Department watched 19 of its student-athletes take part fall commencement ceremonies over the weekend. The Cardinals had student athletes from five different programs participate in the ceremonies.
 
Football led the way with nine graduates, while the back-to-back Southland Conference Champion soccer team graduated five. Baseball had three graduates while softball and men's tennis each had one (individual graduates by sport listed below).
 
The fall commencement ceremony only served to reinforce the good news about the academic success of LU student-athletes, released by the NCAA last week. The Cardinals posted an 81-percent graduation success rate (GSR), surpassing the old mark of 80 percent set the previous year. Due to Lamar success in the classroom, LU is eligible for Academic Based Revenue Distribution.
 
The Cardinals' current GSR is the highest for the university since the NCAA started reporting graduation success rates in 2004-05.
