HAMMOND, Louisiana – Freshmen
Taisha Rhone and
Lyric Jordan finished with seven kills each while
Jo Moffitt chipped in 11 digs, but it wasn't enough as the Cardinals' conference tournament hopes faded away after falling on the road to Southland-leading Southeastern Louisiana, 3-0 (25-21, 25-13, 25-10), Thursday evening.
Lamar (2-26/2-15 SLC) ended the night 30-11-89 (.213) from the floor, but unfortunately, 11 attack errors and eight reception errors cost the Cardinals dearly.
Southeastern Louisiana finished the match with an attack rate of 36.5 percent (48-10-104). The Lions also recorded eight aces and five blocks on the evening.
The Cardinals jumped out to an early lead in the first set before a 10-3 SLU run changed the momentum. The Lions would keep Big Red at arm's length the rest of the way despite five kills from Rhone.
The second set started out tight with the Cardinals staying within three points early on. This was followed, however, by SLU finishing the set on a 13-4 tear to extend their lead.
Unlike the first two sets, the Lions imposed their will from the start of the third set. A 10-3 outburst would ultimately be too much for Big Red to overcome.
The Cardinals finish up the season Saturday when they face off against New Orleans. The match against the Privateers will begin at 11 a.m.
