Alexander Garners Southland Weekly Superlative Honor

| By:
FRISCO, Texas – Lamar University junior defensive back Damian Alexander has been named Southland Conference Special Teams Player of the Week announced league officials Monday morning. It marks the first weekly honor of Alexander's career, and it's the fifth consecutive week a Cardinal has received a player of the week award – breaking the mark of four straight set last season.

Alexander received the honor for his efforts in helping Lamar record an impressive 41-21 victory over Texas A&M-Commerce Saturday. The Cardinals forced two fumbles on A&M-Commerce punt returns, the second which led to a Cardinal touchdown, and both fumbles were recovered by Alexander. The first recovery came in the first and the other in the second. The two plays helped sway momentum in favor of the Cardinals in what was a close game at the time.

Alexander also recorded a tackle on special teams as the Cardinals went on to post a 41-21 victory over A&M-Commerce.

Saturday's win put them within a game of the Southland Conference leaders – Nicholls – Big Red's next opponent. The Cardinals travel to Thibodaux, La., Saturday with a shot to move into a tie for first place in the standings. Saturday's game will kick off at 3 p.m. from Guidry Stadium. It will be broadcast live on Newstalk 560 and streamed live on ESPN+.
