HOUSTON, Texas – Freshman
Taisha Rhone finished with 10 kills and 10 digs in her return from injury while
Lyric Jordan also chipped in 10 kills as the Cardinals came up short on the road against Houston Christian, 3-0 (25-18, 25-28, 25-14), Tuesday evening.
Lamar (1-22/1-11 SLC) ended the night 34-19-107 (.140) from the floor, but unfortunately, 19 attack errors cost the Cardinals dearly.
HCU finished the match with an attack rate of 37.2 percent (45-10-94). The Huskies also recorded eight aces on the evening.
The first set featured many runs from both teams as a 9-3 HCU lead was answered with six consecutive points by the Cardinals. This was followed, however, by a 10-3 run from the Huskies which gave them a lead they would not relinquish.
Both teams matched points early in the second set as the Cardinals took advantage of a couple of aces from Rhone and a few kills from
Jordan Gipson. Unfortunately, another 10-3 HCU run did Lamar in and extended the Huskies' lead.
Unlike the first two sets, the Huskies imposed their will from the start of the third set. Jordan recorded four kills for the Cardinals, but ultimately, they would not be enough.
The Cardinals are back in action Thursday when they host the Northwestern State Demons at McDonald Gym. The match against Northwestern State will begin at 6 p.m.
