BEAUMONT, Texas – Despite 13 kills from freshman
Taisha Rhone and 15 digs from
Kaeden Robinson, Lamar was unable to put things together at home against Northwestern State falling 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-10) Thursday evening.
Lamar (1-23/1-12 SLC) ended the night 39-14-114 (.219) from the floor along with six blocks. However, eight reception errors by the Cardinals came back to bite them.
The Demons finished the match with an attack rate of 28.1 percent (46-14-114). They also recorded eight aces and six blocks.
The first ten points of the first set varied back and forth before NSU went on a quick run to give them a five-point cushion. From there, the Demons held the Cardinals at arm's length to finish off the set.
Lamar jumped out to an early lead in the second set, but the Demons responded with a 12-3 run. This was enough for NSU to overcome ten combined kills from
Taisha Rhone and
Lyric Jordan.
The third set played out similar to the second as a 9-3 NSU run answered an early Cardinal lead. Lamar fought off three straight match points before the Demons converted the fourth.
The Cardinals hit the road Saturday as they face off against Incarnate Word before returning home next Thursday for their second-to-last home game against McNeese at McDonald Gym. The match against McNeese will begin at 6 p.m.
