BEAUMONT, Texas – Eight kills from freshman Lyric Jordan and 13 digs from Kaeden Robinson were not enough as the Cardinals fell at home against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 3-0 (25-12, 25-20, 25-18), Saturday afternoon.
Lamar (1-21/1-10 SLC) finished the afternoon 26-17-95 (.095) from the floor along with four blocks. However, 17 attack errors cost the Cardinals dearly.
The Islanders ended the match with an attack rate of 25.2 percent (47-20-107). They also recorded six blocks to go with four aces.
The Cardinals fell behind early in the opening set and never were able to gain momentum. Out of a timeout, Lamar made a run but ultimately came up short.
The second set was a closer contest to start as both teams were tied at 12 midway through. A 9-3 run by the Islanders saw them take advantage of six attack errors from the Cardinals on their way to a win.
A 11-3 start from the Islanders saw the third set mirror the first. A couple of late kills from Lyric Jordan saw the Cardinals keep the pressure on before the Islanders finished out the match.
The Cardinals hit the road Tuesday as they face off against Houston Christian before returning home Thursday to host Northwestern State at McDonald Gym. The match against Northwestern State will begin at 6 p.m.
