BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University head baseball coach
Will Davis announced a seven-member signing class Monday afternoon that consists of two NCAA Division I transfers and five junior college transfers. Peyton Havard (RHP, UL Lafayette), Logan Hamm (OF/RHP, Houston), Ricky Sanchez (INF, Barton JC), Carson Baker (INF/OF, Glendalce JC), Colten Graham (RHP/Glendale JC), Heladio Moreno (OF, Angelina JC) and Anthony Ortiz (RHP, Labette JC) will continue their education and play baseball for Lamar University.
"We are in a fortunate position with our roster where we can afford to be extremely picky in recruiting," said LU head coach
Will Davis. "The five junior college guys we signed in the early signing period really wowed us with both the success they had in 2022 and the way they looked during the fall.
"Logan Hamm and Peyton Havard were guys that we recruited since their freshman year of high school. We have had relationships with them for the past seven-plus years. I would expect them to come right in and make a huge impact for us on the field and as leaders of our team," added Davis.
The incoming class includes an All-American, three all-state honors and multiple former district MVPs. The position breakdown includes five pitchers (all right handed), three outfielders, two infielders with two players being listed at two positions.
The majority of the newest class of Cardinals comes from the Lone Star State, including two from the Golden Triangle (Havard and Hamm), with two from the state of Arizona to go along with two international prospects – Sanchez (Mexico) and Ortiz (Puerto Rico).
