Cardinals Win Events in Both Houston and Lake Charles

| By:
HOUSTON, Texas - Friday after noon saw Lamar University's track and field team compete in not one, but two meets as a majority of members traveled to Houston for the Houston Invitational at the Yeoman Fieldhouse while the jumpers traveled to Lake Charles, La., for the McNeese State Invitational. Both races would have a first place finish and another stellar outing from the participants.

In Houston, the women's distance meter relay team of Yasmin Austridge, Nia Clatworthy, Jillian Howard, and Faith Outing not only earned first place with a time of 11:35.48, but shattered the school record in the event by 35 seconds. Their time also currently third in the NCAA. Howard would follow with a third place finish in the mile with a time of 5:04.08 while Austridge posted a 2:10.23 time in the 800m, which was good for second. Clatworthy also had a strong run in the 3000m in which she finished third for 9:58.81.

In Lake Charles, Kenson Tate lept his way to 7.11m (23'4"), which earned him his first individual title of the season after second place finishes in his last two meets. Making his debut in Cardinal Red, Jaccarius Demmerrite won the men's triple jump with 14.18m (46' 6.25").

For the third meet in a row, Miles Jones would end up medaling in the high jump. This time, he took third with 2.06 meters (6'9.00"), which set a new PR by .01m from last meet. Chloe Rodriguez took third place in the 400m clocking in at a season best 57.01.

Sydne Porter also set a new PR as she took fifth in the 200m. However, her time of 24.62 ranks as the third all-time fastest time in program history and is ranked second in the conference.

There were personal bests set by athletes that finished 10th or lower. Steven Jones' time of 6.88 moves him up the ranks of the fourth fastest time in the event. Alex Williams also set a new peronal best in the shot put (14.71m-48'3.25") that earned him a spot in the top 10.

Meanwhile in Lake Charles, Kayli Johnson (5.63m - 18' 5.75") and Klinta Blusina (5.45m - 17' 10.5") each medaled in the long jump placing second and third respectively. LU would claim the second through fourth spots in the triple jump from Arajanee Jackson (11.71m-38'5"), Crisstin Riley (11.42m-37'5.5"), and Diamond Milton (11.04m-36'2.75") respectively.
