HOUSTON, Texas - In their second meet at the University of Houston, Lamar University's track and field teams spent the entire meet setting personal bests and picking up a few first place finishes along the way at the Robert Platt Invitational.
LU had their first champions in this meet.
Faith Outing would stand out on the women's side as she claimed first place overall in the women's 400 meters with a time of 56.65 seconds beating out teammate
Sydne Porter (5th; 57.77) by over a second. In only his second collegiate event,
Miles Jones would earn first place in the high jump going over six feet (2.05m).
Yasmin Austridge had a record breaking day in the women's 800m setting a new school record with a time of 2:09.59, which bests her own PR and ranks 18th in the NCAA. She also placed third in the 3000m with 10:06.62. Her cross country teammates
Jillian Howard (5:02.31) and
Nia Clatworthy (5:04.34) each set new PRs as they took second and fourth place respective in the women's mile run. Howard also finished fifth in the 3000m (10:10.56).
Kayli Johnson set not one, but two personal bests in the 60m hurdles. qualified for the finals by placing third at 8.69 seconds. This not only was a new personal best for her, but was also the second fastest time in program history and tied for first overall in the conference. But she would later break that mark in the finals as she finished third with 8.60 seconds, which means she now holds the top time in the conference. In the field portion, she set another personal best in the long jump leaping 5.52m (18'1'5) to finish in sixth place.
In the women's 60m prelims,
Jakenzie Thymes (14th; 7.81) reached the top 16 before setting a new mark at 7.79 in the semifinals, which was the 10th best time in program history.
All-American
Kenson Tate leapt into another second place finish with a mark of 7.69m (25'2.75") while
Jaylon Roberts (400m; 49.54) and
Arajanee Jackson (Triple Jump; 12.01m) each had fourth place finishes in their respected events.
LU will make their third trip to UH on Feb. 11th to partake in the Howie Ryan Invitational.
