NEW ORLEANS, La. – Lamar University won its third consecutive match and improved to 4-3 on the season with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-17) victory over Texas Southern Saturday afternoon to close out the New Orleans Tournament.
The Cardinals recorded a .229 attack percentage on the day recording a 39-15-105 effort. The Cardinals opened the game with a .150 effort in the first set and only got stronger as the match went on posting a 15-4-36 (.306) effort in third.
Big Red's defense was just as impressive holding the Tigers to an .078 effort (29 kills with 21 errors). LU also finished the day with 15 total blocks and 47 digs.
Senior
Kaitlyn Gil led the Cardinals with 12 kills (.290 attack percentage). She was one of four players who hit better than .260 on the afternoon. Newcomer
Nylah Encalade recorded seven kills and four blocks. Wiktoria Wapechowska notched six kills and a team-high five blocks.
The Cardinals return to action Wednesday, Sept. 14, when they travel to Prairie View A&M to take on the Panthers. The match against the Panthers will begin at 6 p.m.
