COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Continuing their outdoor season, Lamar's track and field teams traveled to College Station to compete in Texas A&M's Aggie Invitational. For the Cardinals, there were more personal bests and a record-setting performance to earn one first place finish.
Yasmin Austridge would make an early impact for LU by not winning the 1500m, but her time of 4:27.59 seconds, including 68 seconds on the final lap, set a new meet record held previously by Hannah Campbell (TAMU) in 2019 by nearly three seconds. Austridge followed that up with a ninth place run in the 800m (2:15.52).
Sydne Porter also had a big day as she set two personal bests. First, she crossed the line in the 100m at 11.88. Then, though she would finish fifth in the 200m, she clocked in a time of 23.72 seconds, which also made her the second fastest collegiate athlete to run in the event.
Kenson Tate would have another leap in the long jump. With 7.53m, he finished third overall, but was second among college athletes trailing Rayvon Allen of Oklahoma by .08m.
Eli Peveto would set a personal best in the 3000m steeplechase timing in at 9:14.35, which was good for fourth place.
While there would be no top 10 finishes in both the men's and women's 400 meter events, there were bests set by the runners. On the women's circuit,
Faith Outing (55.54) recorded a season best while Pärl Eelma (56.73) and
Adebola Odunlami (56.94) each recorded new personal bests. The men had Antonio Munoz (48.46),
Derrick Brooks (48.59), and Robine Lane (50.02) record new personal bests while
Brian Raven collected a new season best of 49.45 seconds.
LU's next event will be the Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships up in Seattle, Wash., in two weeks.
