BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University had to rally from an early deficit but cruised to an easy victory defeating Nicholls, 6-1, Sunday afternoon at the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
The Colonels picked up the first point of the match after taking decisions on courts 3 and 2, respectively. Despite the lead, Nicholls was unable to turn the advantage into momentum. LU grabbed the equalizer on court 4 from sophomore
Alba Perez. Perez recorded a 6-4, 6-1, decision over Nicholls' Laura Lopez.
Ana Jolic gave the Red and White their first lead of the match with her straight-sets decision over Sophia Sara Safarova, 6-3, 6-4.
Jolic's victory appeared to knock the steam out of their opponent as LU closed the match with a run of four consecutive victories. The Colonels had a chance of taking a second point on court 5, but
Emmeline Polevoi battled back after dropping the opening set. Polevoi rallied for a 3-6, 6-3, 10-8 decision to post the final score.
