Cardinals Can't Contain Lancers' Hot Shooting

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - With California Baptist shooting lights out in the first half, the Cardinals were unable to match the Lancers as they came up with a 101-76 loss in the final game of the regular season. Despite their 13-14 overall record to end the season, LU still finished as the seventh seed in the Western Athletic Conference with an 8-10 and will open the WAC Tournament on Tuesday.

Emma Imevbore would come off the bench to lead LU with a season-high 17 points and also grab eight rebounds. Portia Adams scored 12 points off the bench as well while starter Akasha Davis collected 10 points.

The Lancers caught fire early knocking down their first seven shots of the game to build an 18-4 lead. The Cards answered with a 12-2 run to trail 20-16 as Hastings and Adams led the charge with six points apiece. Despite shooting 46.7% in the quarter, the Cardinals still trailed 28-21 after one.

The hot shooting of CBU continued in the second quarter as they poured in 27 points while hitting 72.4% from the field. The Cardinals would only get 14 points as Akasha Davis would put up four of her eight first half points. LU would shoot 18.8% from the field in the quarter as they railed 55-35 at the break.

CBU added another 20+ point quarter when they tallied 29 points to lead 84-53 after the third quarter. The Cardinals did make 43.8% from the field, but again couldn't match the hot shooting from the Lancers.

LU did have a strong fourth quarter performance from Imevbore, who scored 12 points in the final 10 minutes of the game. The Cardinals spent most of the quarter trimming CBU's lead down to the 20's while the Lancers reached the 100-point mark. The final score was 101-76 in CBU's favor.

LU will be taking on 10th seeded New Mexico State at 4:30 PM this Tuesday in the WAC Tournament.
