Cardinals Fall to Former Conference Foes

BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University squared off against a former conference foe Monday afternoon at the Thompson Family Tennis Center but the shorthanded Cardinals came up short dropping a 4-0 decision to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

The Islanders took all three doubles matches to score the first point of the match and never trailed in the contest. Sophomore Elena Rubio was trying to even the score up at No. 4 singles, when she forced the Islanders' Emma Honore to a tiebreak in the opening set. Unfortunately, Honore escaped with an opening set victory.

With the match on court No. 4 was heading to a second set, the Islanders tacked on wins at lines 5 and 2, respectively, to take a 3-0 lead. The match ended moments later when the Cardinals were forced to default due to injury on court 6.

The Cardinals return to action Friday when they host Northwestern State. The match against the Lady Demons will begin at noon from the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
