Box Score HOUSTON – Lamar University dropped a heartbreaking game 11-8 against Houston Baptist Saturday at Cougar Field. Houston Baptist (4-5) scored five runs in the seventh inning, including a three-run walk-off homer.
Senior Kaylee Ancelot and sophomore Hannah Kinkade each blasted three-run homers in the third inning, providing the Cardinals (4-9) with a 6-4 lead. Both, Ancelot and Kinkade, produced multiple hits during the game. Sophomore infielder Brooke Davis also produced a multi-hit game.
Sophomore outfielder Audry Fleming added two more runs when she drove a sacrifice fly to the top of the centerfield wall where it was caught. Ancelot and sophomore infielder Sam Bean scored on the sacrficie fly pushing Big Red's lead to 8-5.
Freshman pitcher Haila Linton tossed 4.1 innings of relief, allowing two earned runs on eight hits and three walks. She faced 24 batters.
Lamar held an 8-6 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh.
The Cardinals have two more games remaining in the Houston Tournament. The first game is against Northern Colorado with first pitch scheduled at 11:30 a.m. Sunday. Afterwards, Lamar University will face Houston Baptist again with a scheduled start time of 2 p.m. Both games will be played at Cougar Field in Houston.
