Box Score PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico -- Sophomore outfielder Audry Fleming blasted her second home run of the season in seventh inning. Despite this, Lamar University fell 6-2 to Rutgers Saturday morning at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge.
Fleming's home run matches her season total of two from a season ago. This, coming in just the fourth game of the year. Pinch-runner Janelle Marwitz also scored on the home run.
Prior to that, Rutgers built up a 6-0 lead. The Scarlet Knights scored a run in the third, fourth and fifth innings. The Scarlet Knights added two in the sixth inning before adding an insurance run in the seventh.
Freshman pitcher Haila Linton started the game strong with two shutout innings, but a home run in the third jump started the Rutgers offense.
The Cardinals will play their final game of the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge against Long Beach State Sunday morning. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m. Central Time
