BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University hosted arguably the nation's premier junior college team Friday afternoon at the Thompson Family Tennis Center. A yearly contender for the NJCAA title, the Apaches produced several Division I athletes each season. Big Red defeated Tyler, 6-1.
 
The Cardinals built a sizeable advantage and never looked back Friday afternoon – in a match that was originally slated to begin at 11 a.m. but got pushed back. After taking the doubles point with wins at lines 2 and 3, the Cardinals tacked on a quick second point with Max Amling's straight-sets decision over Emilio Vila, 6-0, 6-4.
 
Big Red's lead ballooned to 3-0 when freshman Daniel Sancho Arbizu added another victory in straight sets on court No. 1. With LU on the verge of a team win, the Cardinals needed just one more singles victory to put the match away. The team in red didn't have to wait long for the clincher as junior Filippo Salsini came through with a 7-5, 6-2 decision on court No. 4.
 
TJC answered with a victory on court 4, but it was a case of too little, too late as the Cards closed the match with wins on courts 6 and 5, respectively.
