Cardinals Host SLU on Senior Day

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University football team steps on the field Saturday looking to make it two in a row as Southeastern Louisiana comes to town for Senior Day. The Cardinals (1-7/1-3 Southland) picked up their first win of the season last week holding off Nicholls for a 24-17 victory. That win moved the Cardinals into a tie for sixth in the conference standings just a game back of Nicholls. The victory also snapped a 15-game slide which dates back to last season.

The Cardinals now turn their attention to the Southeastern Louisiana (5-3/2-1 SLC) and looking to send the senior class out on a positive note. The Lions are playing some of their best football of the season after a slow start to the year. Currently sitting fourth overall in the league, the Lions have won consecutive games and five of their last six after opening the year with back-to-back losses. During that stretch, the Lions also picked up a win over then No. 4 UIW.

Prior to kick off, the Cardinals will be recognizing their senior class. LU will honor eight players and two student assistants. Those players include running back Hunter Batten, receiver Jalen Dummett, tight end Jacoby Davis, defensive back Austin Goffney, tight end Nathan Gaskamp, tight end Sterling Herrington, linebacker Tyler Jackson, defensive linemen Jack McCarthy, deep snapper Luke Wallis and quarterback Nick Yockey. The senior recognition will take place prior to kick off.

Saturday's contest will conclude the home portion of the 2022 schedule. Big Red will close out the season with games at New Mexico State and rival McNeese. The contest will kick off at 3 p.m. and will be broadcast live on Newstalk 560 and streamed live on ESPN+.
