FRISCO, Texas – Lamar University freshman running back and return specialist Major Bowden has been named Southland Conference Special Teams Player of the Week announced league officials Monday morning. Bowden becomes the fourth Cardinal this season to be named Southland Conference Player of the Week.
Bowden returned two kicks for 131 yards and a touchdown in the annual Battle of the Border rivalry game against McNeese Saturday. In addition to averaging 65.5 yards per return, Bowden also recorded a 98-yard return for a touchdown – the first return for a score of his career.
The China Springs native, recorded the team's second returned kick for a score this year, with the other being a 100-yard return from classmate Damashja Harris (which he also received special teams player of the week honors for).
Bowden received the final special teams player of the week award of the 2022 campaign joining a list of Cardinals that included Chris Esqueda, Jack McCarthy and Harris.
