Cardinals Fall in Road Contest

NATCHITOCHES, La. – Lamar University's volleyball team came up just short going in search of their second win in their last three outings. The Cardinals (8-14/2-9 Southland) dropped a 3-1 (25-21, 25-17, 22-25, 25-21) decision at Northwestern State Saturday evening at Prather Gym.

Defensively, the Cardinals held NSU to a .179 attack percentage, but the Cardinals were unable to make their guests pay for their struggles. Coming off one of their best offensive performances of the season, LU could only muster a 48-25-169 (.136) effort.

Junior Giselle Santini did her best to keep the ball alive recording 23 digs on the night and was one of four Cardinals to record double-figure digs. Senior Kaitlyn Gil led the Cardinals with 16 kills (in addition to 12 digs) while Wiktoria Wapechowska added nine.

The Cardinals were strong at the net defensively recorded 16 blocks, led by six from Tytiana Johnson.

The Red and White will look to get back in the win column Thursday when they travel to San Antonio to take on the league's other Cardinals – UIW. The match against UIW is slated for a 6 p.m. start.
